One of two water-quality platforms that float on Bear Lake, Utah-Idaho during spring-fall, collecting seven water-quality parameters continuously at 2-meter intervals from the surface of the lake to the bottom.
Michael (Mike) D. Hess
Mike is a valuable member of the Utah Water Science Center.
Science and Products
Mike is responsible for deploying the Bear Lake Water Quality Platforms each spring and retrieving them each fall. He spends the summer maintaining the instrumentation and checking the data. Among other field work, he has also been working on an evaporation model for the lake.

Bear Lake Water-Quality Data Visualizations
Displaying water-quality data with depth over time at a single location has always presented a challenge. These data visualizations were developed as a response to that issue by Katherine Jones, USGS Office of Quality Assurance.
