Recent Publications in Support of the Restoration of Water Resources Impaired by Wastewater Nitrogen
Excess nitrogen from wastewater disposal has impaired groundwater quality and reduced the ecological health of rivers and coastal embayments across New England. The New England Water Science Center, in cooperation with multiple partners, collects data and conducts scientific assessments to support the management and restoration of groundwater and surface waters impaired by wastewater nitrogen.
Depth of Groundwater Used for Drinking-Water Supplies in the United States
The USGS New England Water Science Center works with national programs and other partners on interpretive hydrologic science, such as estimating the depth of groundwater used for drinking-water supplies in the United States.
New England WSC Hydrologic Monitoring Program Fall 2021 Update
Streamflow conditions in New England were generally in the normal to above normal range for much of the fall season, although much of northern Vermont and New Hampshire and northwestern Maine remained in below normal conditions because of continued lack of precipitation.
Embayment Monitoring to Support Nutrient Management Activities in Connecticut for Long Island Sound
The USGS, in cooperation with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection will be collecting water-quality and hydrologic data at four embayments from April 2021 to March 2025: Mystic, Norwalk, Saugatuck, Sasco-Southport complex, and Farm.
