Johnson Interviewed By Interlochen Public Radio On How Dam Removals Influence Invasive Sea Lamprey Populations
The Trade-Offs Of Improved Habitat Connectivity In Two Michigan Rivers
Nick Johnson (GLSC, Millersburg, Michigan) was interviewed by Tylor Wizner of Interlochen Public Radio on January 26, 2022. The focus of Nick's interview was the consequences of dam removal on sea lamprey populations—specifically in the Pigeon and Maple Rivers in northern Michigan where dams have been removed and release of sterile male sea lamprey is being tested to supplement the need for application of lamprey-specific pesticides. This component will be part of a larger story assessing the trade-offs managers face when considering dam removal where improved habitat connectivity improves access to habitat for both valued and invasive species. The story is expected to air on Interlochen Public Radio as part of their Up North Series and Podcast in March 2022.
