Alabama Statewide Flood Frequency
The magnitude and frequency of floods are important factors in the design of bridges, culverts, highway embankments, dams, and other hydraulic structures near streams. Information on flood magnitude and frequency is also used in flood plain management and development, and in establishing flood insurance rates. The objective of this project is to develop improved methods and equations for estimating the magnitude and frequency of floods for streams in Alabama having the 2-, 5-, 10-, 25-, 50-, 100-, 200-, and 500-year recurrence intervals. These methods and equations will be documented in a Water-Resources Investigations Report as well as the flood-frequencies and annual peaks at gaging stations in Alabama.
