Flood Early Warning Science in Oklahoma and Texas
The USGS Oklahoma-Texas Water Science Center (OTWSC) is developing hardened early flood warning systems to help first responders and citizens.
This includes:
• Flood hardened gages raised high above and set away from the measured stream.
• Redundant data collection and transmission paths.
• Automated notification systems for emergency managers and the general public.

FLOOD SCIENCE CAPABILITIES
OTWSC has expertise in a wide variety of flood early warning science applications, including, but not limited to:
- Monitoring streamgaging networks for early warning
- Mapping flood inundation
- Estimating flood frequency and occurrence
- Hydraulic modeling of rivers and streams
- Developing decision support systems
- Mapping real-time water data with weather and hazards information on the web
- Developing automated social media channels for data dissemination

CURRENT DATA
The Texas Water Dashboard is a web mapping application that presents U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) real-time stream, lake, reservoir, precipitation, and well data in Texas in context with current weather and hazard conditions. The Stream layers includes a "Rate of change" status option which will show you at a glance where river levels are rising.
Social Media
The Texas Water Science Center operates two autonomous Twitter channels which post tweets of current water conditions at USGS gages when flooding or extreme rainfall is detected.

Texas Water On-The-Go (discontinued)
The Water On-the-Go app has been discontinued. You can view gages near your location using the National Water Dashboard.
“Water On-the-Go” was a map-based web application to give people easy access to current conditions in streams across Texas. It was developed to help raise water awareness during floods and normal conditions.
