Monitoring of Water Resources with the Upper Sioux Community
The USGS has partnered with the Upper Sioux Community (USC) to provide information needed to better manage their water resources, especially groundwater levels and quality.
USGS staff trained USC staff in groundwater level measurement and recording. Data collected by the staff are quality assured by USGS and published.
Approach
•Maintain and operate continuous groundwater stations.
•Quality assure data collected by USC staff.
•Field calibrate and verify that instrumentation and equipment are recording and transmitting accurate data.
•Analyze data, trends and hydrologic implications
Objectives
1.Continuously monitor and record water level, temperature and precipitation.
2.Conduct a synoptic water level measurement.
3.Make data publicly available through the National Water Information System (NWIS).
4.Increase hydrologic understanding.
