A summer whistling cock count of bobwhite quail as an index to wintering populations
A summer whistling-cock count of bobwhite quail was made and compared with covey numbers in subsequent hunting seasons in 1950-53 on 4 areas in Alabama and 6 in South Carolina. Findings involved a total of 901 whistling cocks and 910 coveys. Study area acreage in Alabama was 5,571 and 6,679 in South Carolina. Short paper that reviews some of the facts about effects of insecticides on wildlife and states principles that should be followed for maximum safety in treatment. These principles include minimal doses, good ground-to-plane control to avoid overdoses, and least possible pollution of water areas.

On June 25, 1956, Don P. Fankhauser and I investigated a large heron colony of mixed species, on Mills Island in Chincoteague Bay, Worcester County, Maryland. Effects on wildlife of aerial applications of strobane, DDT, and BHC to tidal marshes in Delaware
The principal purpose of this study was to ascertain what effect on wildlife, if any, would result from the use of the new insecticide, Strobane, for mosquito control on tideland areas.
