Laboratory and Analytical Services Division

The USGS Water Resources Mission Area Laboratory and Analytical Services Division serves the Nation's water resources community by providing timely and high-quality, routine, and customized analytical services, collaborative research, and quality assessment for laboratory and field measurements. 

The Laboratory and Analytical Services Division (LASD) is one of five divisions within the Water Resources Mission Area’s Office of the Chief Operating Officer

The operations, programs, and activities of LASD are performed by four branches:  

  • The Quality Systems Branch provides independent performance data and assessments for field and laboratory measurements used by the USGS Water Enterprise.  
  • The Strategic Laboratory Science Branch provides leadership and innovation in water research and method development for the Water Mission Area, USGS and beyond. 
  • The Project Laboratories Branch provides laboratory and field support to scientific research processes conducted by the Water Mission Area, the broader USGS, and other federal and non-federal entities.  

     

The National Water Quality Laboratory provides world-class environmental analyses of over 800 constituents for the USGS Water Resources Mission Area and Water Science Centers to characterize the nation’s water quality.
