Environmental DNA survey results for Oncorhynchus mykiss and Cottus aleuticus in coastal streams of Big Sur, California, 2021-2022

The data support a study that surveyed the spatial distribution of Oncorhynchus mykiss and Cottus aleuticus eDNA in coastal streams of Big Sur, California, 2021-2022 following post-fire debris flows. The metadata represent qPCR quantification cycle (Cq) values for O. mykiss and C. aleuticus assays performed on water samples collected during June and July of 2021 and 2022 from the following streams

Riparian climate refugia data in western and central USA for 2040-2069 and 2070-2099

We mapped potential climate change refugia for riparian areas in the central and western USA for 2040-2069 and 2070-2099. Riparian refugia are existing riparian areas that are projected to maintain riparian vegetation and associated ecological function under plausible future climates. Four input variables were included in the riparian refugia index: two landscape variables that represent where exi

Greater sage-grouse genetic data and R code for evaluating conservation translocations in the northwestern United States, 1992–2021

Conservation translocations are a common wildlife management tool that can be difficult to implement and evaluate for effectiveness. Genetic information can provide unique insight regarding local impact of translocations (e.g., presence and retention of introduced genetic variation) and identifying suitable source and recipient populations (e.g., adaptive similarity). We developed two genetic data

Topographic, bathymetric, and ground control data collected at Marconi Beach, Wellfleet, Massachusetts in March and April 2024.

The data in this release re-map the beach and nearshore environment at Marconi Beach in Wellfleet, MA and provide updated environmental context for the 2021 CoastCam installation that looks out at the coast shared by beachgoers, shorebirds, seals, and sharks. This is related to the field activity 2024-016-FA and a collaboration with the National Park Service at Cape Cod National Seashore to monito

Utica Shale and Point Pleasant Formation Isotopic Compositions

This release contains isotopic composition (δ7Li, δ11B, δ138Ba) data of produced water and core samples taken from the Utica Shale and Point Pleasant Formation.

Contractor vertical accuracy checkpoints for 3D Elevation Program digital elevation models in the Northern Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic coastal regions, 2012–2020

Vertical accuracy of elevation data in coastal environments is critical because small variations in elevation can affect an area’s exposure to waves, tides, and storm-related flooding. Elevation data contractors typically quantify the vertical accuracy of digital elevation models (DEMs) developed using light detection and ranging data acquisition on a per-project basis to gauge whether the dataset

Tree Growth at Redwood National Park from 1970 to 2015

This dataset describes tree growth and site characteristics for 26 monitoring plots in 3 sites in Redwood National Park in California, USA. One site (A972) was established and sampled in 2007, 2008, and 2013 (Dagley and others, 2023). Two sites (Holter Ridge and Whiskey 40) were established and sampled in 2009 (van Mantgem and Das, 2014). Six existing plots in the Holter Ridge and Whiskey 40 sites

Estimated crop irrigation water use withdrawals in Prescott Active Management Area Groundwater Basin, Arizona for 2023

Observations of irrigated agricultural land within the Prescott Active Management Area Groundwater Basin in Arizona. Crops were verified in situ once in 2023 on Sep 13th; based on digitized field boundaries. Field boundaries were digitized from U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agriculture Imagery Program County Mosaic 2023 imagery for Arizona and supplemented with the Sentinel2 imagery col

Annual streamflow statistics for selected streamgages in and near the shale play area of eastern Ohio (through water year 2021)

This data release includes datasets with annual streamflow statistics determined with the Indicators of Hydrologic Alteration software and R source code to create time-series plots with overlaid locally weighted scatterplot smoothing (lowess) lines.

Stream Attributes and Habitat Intrinsic Potential Model Results to examine Freshwater Habitat Potential for Chinook Salmon in the Yukon and Kuskokwim River Basins, Alaska

Chinook Salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) are an important commercial, subsistence, and recreational fishery resource in Alaska, and recent population declines have resulted in closures of some Chinook Salmon fisheries. Research into environmental factors involved in the decline of salmon stocks has exposed information gaps regarding fine-scale freshwater habitat quality known to influence Chinook

Mapping landscape connectivity for moose across the northeastern United States

Connectivity describes how well a landscape facilitates or impedes the movement of animals. Maximizing connectivity is a common management goal, especially for large mammals like moose (Alces americanus americanus) that occupy large home ranges and have the capacity to move long distances. Moose in the northeastern US (encompassing the states of Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Connec

Salinity tolerance of grass carp and silver carp during egg and early larval stages

We tested salinity tolerance of grass carp and silver carp eggs and larvae during two phases of development – pre-gas bladder inflation and post gas bladder inflation to the development of the second gas bladder chamber, using 6 different salinity concentrations ranging from 0 to 36 ppt. Growth and developmental rates were also observed after exposure. After the initiation of horizontal swimming,
