Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

MODFLOW-2000 and Management-Optimization Models Used to Evaluate Alternative Groundwater-Withdrawal Scenarios on Water Levels in Kingsbury Pond, Upper Charles River Basin, Eastern Massachusetts
An existing, three-dimensional, transient groundwater-flow model of the Upper Charles River Basin, eastern Massachusetts, was modified to evaluate alternative groundwater-withdrawal scenarios on water levels in Kingsbury Pond. The pond is hydraulically connected to the groundwater-flow system, and water levels in the pond fluctuate in response to recharge to the aquifer from precipitation and wast
High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry Data for Wastewater Samples Collected at an on-Site Separator and Storage Tank at the Marcellus Shale Energy and Environment Laboratory (MSEEL) 2015-2019, Morgantown Industrial Park (MIP), West Virginia
The Marcellus Shale Energy and Environment Laboratory (MSEEL) is part of the Northeast Natural Energy LLC (NNE) production facility on the Monongahela River in Monongalia County, West Virginia, USA. Natural gas extraction in the area creates large volumes of wastewater that may contain chemical compounds that pose risks to humans, animals, and the environment. The U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) ha
Simulated net primary productivity and greenhouse gas emissions under various soil salinity and water table depth combinations in low salinity tidal wetlands
The dataset contains simulated net primary productivity (NPP) and greenhouse gas emissions (CH4, N2O, CO2) under a series of combinations of soil salinities (0.1, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 psu) and water table depth (WTDs) (-30, -20, -10, -5, 0, 5, 10, 20, 30 cm) for tidal forest and oligohaline marsh sites along the Savannah River and Waccamaw River, USA.
Critical mineral deposits of the United States (ver. 2.0, April 2024)
A goal of the USGS Earth Mapping Resources Initiative (Earth MRI) program, which partners the USGS with State Geological Surveys, Federal agencies, and the private sector, is to collect new geological, geophysical, geochemical, and topographic (lidar) data in key areas of the U.S., with the purpose of stimulating domestic mineral exploration and production of critical minerals. As a first step, th
Rangeland Condition Monitoring Assessment and Projection (RCMAP) Fractional Component Time-Series Across the Western U.S. 1985-2021
The RCMAP (Rangeland Condition Monitoring Assessment and Projection) dataset quantifies the percent cover of rangeland components across the western U.S. using Landsat imagery from 1985-2021. The RCMAP product suite consists of nine fractional components: annual herbaceous, bare ground, herbaceous, litter, non-sagebrush shrub, perennial herbaceous, sagebrush, shrub, and tree, in addition to the te
Compilation of total organic carbon and pyrolysis analysis data for Cretaceous marine shales in the Raton Basin-Sierra Grande Uplift Province, Colorado and New Mexico
This compilation presents total organic carbon and pyrolysis analysis data for the Pierre Shale, Niobrara Formation, and other Cretaceous marine shales in the Raton Basin-Sierra Grande Uplift Province. The data was used to characterize these potential source rock intervals in support of the oil and gas resource assessment in the province. The data was compiled from the publicly available files at
Hydroacoustic data from uncrewed surface vehicle (USV) overtakes in Lakes Huron and Michigan, 2021
These data were derived from hydroacoustic data collected by uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs) and powered research vessels. The powered vessels overtook the USVs in Lakes Huron and Michigan to study fish avoidance of survey vessels during traditional acoustic surveys. The water column was divided into three depth groups (epilimnion, metalimnion, hypolimnion) for analysis. Each drone transect was b
Connectivity and Bottlenecks of Habitat Patches along the United States terrestrial coastline of the Great Lakes
This dataset maps the connectivity and bottlenecks among habitat patches within a six-kilometer ribbon along the United States terrestrial coastline of the Great Lakes. Each pixel represents the relative value that cell contributes to connectivity between and among habitat patches. When aggregated the pixel values produce a map of all possible pathways between habitat patches providing the end use
Connectivity and Bottlenecks of Protected Areas along the United States terrestrial coastline of the Great Lakes
This dataset maps the connectivity and bottlenecks among protected areas within a six km ribbon along the terrestrial coastline of the U.S. Great Lakes. Each pixel represents the relative contribution that cell provides to connectivity between and among the protected areas. When aggregated the pixel values produce a map of all possible pathways between protected areas, providing the end user with
LANDFIRE 2014 (140) NGDA Products
LANDFIRE (LF) 2014 incorporates landscape change and disturbances, such as wildland fire, fuel and vegetation treatments, insects and disease, storm damage, and invasive plants that occurred in 2013 and 2014.
This update includes:
responses to vegetation successional change in forested types
revisions to address discrepancies between map products and known field conditions
The LF 2014 update als
Water quality and contaminants in stream surface waters collected in the Shenandoah Valley, 2021
The data presented in this data release includes 11 field/water quality parameters, concentrations of 16 nutrients/anions, dissolved organic carbon, 14 organic contaminants, net estrogenicity concentrations, and 51 inorganic constituents in surface water collected twice from 28 stream sites and collected once from 2 stream sites in the Shenandoah Valley (Virginia and West Virginia, USA), in the su
Survival, behavior, reproduction, morphometric measurements, and tissue analyses of crayfish, mussels, and fish from acute pesticide toxicity tests
Survival, behavior, reproduction, morphometric measurements, and tissue analyses of crayfish, mussels, and fish from acute toxicity tests with pyrethroid pesticides. Exposure and recovery water quality data are also included for quality assurance purposes.
