The Mercersburg and Chambersburg Qquadrangles are located in the south-central part of Pennsylvania, between parallels 39° 45' and 40° and meridians 77° 30' and 78°, and contain about 458 square miles. This area embraces the larger part of Fanklin County and a small part of Fulton County. Its southern border is within 2 miles of the Maryland State boundary.
