Geologic setting of the lunar samples returned by the Apollo 11 mission

The Apollo 11 LM landed approximately 20 km south-southwest of the crater Sabine D in the southwestern part of Mare Tranquillitatis ( fig. 3-1 ). The landing site is 41.5 km north-northeast of the western promontory of the Kant Plateau (ref. 3-1 ), which is the nearest highland region. The Surveyor 5 spacecraft is approximately 25 km north-northwest of the Apollo 11 landing site, and the impact cr

Tissue residues of dieldrin in relation to mortality in birds and mammals

An experiment was performed with Coturnix to learn what residue levels were indicative of death from dieldrin poisoning. Birds were fed diets containing 250, 50, 10, and 2 ppm dieldrin for periods up to 158 days. The dieldrin was 95% pure HEOD, which is 1,2,3,4,10,10-hexachloro-6, 7.epoxy. l,4,4a,5,6,7,8,8a-octahydro-l,4-endo,exo-5,8- dimethanonaphthalene. When half of a group was dead, the oth

Paleomagnetism, potassium-argon ages, and geology of rhyolites and associated rocks of the Valles Caldera, New Mexico

Paleomagnetic and potassium-argon studies support geologic evidence that the lower member of the Bandelier Tuff was deposited 1.4 m.y. ago. The upper member erupted about 1.0 m.y. ago and was followed by caldera collapse which formed the 12- to 14-mile diameter Valles Caldera. Postcaldera activity which resulted in the eruption of rhyolite domes and pyroclastic material, has occurred at about 0.9,
