The USGS carries out landslide hazard assessments, pursues landslide investigations and forecasts, and provides technical assistance to respond to landslide emergencies. Ongoing research aims to improve understanding of factors and mechanisms that control the locations, timing, extent, and speed of large, potentially catastrophic landslides.
