Major Ions

Major ions are the positively and negatively charged ions present in natural waters at levels in the parts per million and higher range (for example, chloride, bromide, and sulfate anions). These are the constituents that contribute to the amount of total and dissolved solids and specific conductance in waters.  The NWQL uses ICP-OES and IC to quantify major ions in water samples.
