Seafloor sediment

Detailed Description

Photographing the sea floor: Images of the seabed taken by the prototype camera system at 9-m depth in the Adriatic Sea, showing silt-size sand grains, shell fragments, and fecal matter. The two photographs were taken 2 1/2 days apart. Their fields of view (approx. 7 mm across each photograph) may cover the same piece of sea floor or pieces of sea floor as much as 2 or 3 cm apart, owing to movement of the camera as it was lowered 1 m to the seabed.
