American Toads in Amplexus

Detailed Description

These two American toads (Anaxrus americanus) are in amplexus, or mating position. In this position, the male toad grasps the female toad behind her front legs and does not let go. During toad breeding events, several males may attempt to mate with the same female, and females have been known to drown when too many males attempt amplexus at the same time.
