September 19, 2010: Colorado River, Grand Canyon, River Mile 61.4, Little Colorado River, Downstream View from River Right. The muddy water of the Little Colorado River can be seen intermixing with the flow of the mainstem Colorado River, which generally runs clear in Marble Canyon due to the sediment-settling that occurs upstream in Lake Powell. Some of the shrubs in the near foreground have died in the course of the past two decades, but others that were present in 1890 still persist. The vegetation on the gravel bar has grown in size and density, and tamarisk trees can be distinguished from the lower-stature native species and younger tamarisk near the shore of the Colorado River.
