This infographic shows how the density-weighted proportion--or dwp--software package estimates the fraction of carcasses that fall outside the searched area at wind energy facilities. A) Carcass density as a function of distance from the turbine. B) Relative carcass density in the area around the turbine, the total area under the “volcano” equals 1. C) Layout of the area searched. D) The probability of a carcass lying inside the searched area is the volume of the volcano above that area.
