Detailed Description

Location of the epicenter of the 23 August 2011 earthquake, in south-central Louisa County, Virginia, in relation to distances from major metropolitan centers – Washington D.C. and Richmond.  The boundary of the Central Virginia seismic zone in this figure is defined by estimated peak ground acceleration, as a fraction of standard gravity, from USGS Open-File Report 2014-1091 (Documentation for the 2014 update of the United States National Seismic Hazard Maps) by Peterson et al (2014).
