Detailed Description
Freshly erupted spatter is extremely glassy and shiny. These spatter clots show their age and are becoming coated with sublimate. Nonetheless, they still illustrate some of the striking features of drainback spatter: large bubbles, contorted shapes, and relatively dense nature. The brief drainbacks don't throw out enough spatter to form a continuous blanket on the ground surface, such as typically surrounds long-lived spatter cones. The lower photo illustrates the scattered distribution of the spatter clots.
