Detailed Description

View of the Mauna Ulu shield volcanic vent in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Young ohia trees and ferns are becoming established on the lava flows that erupted from the vent in 1969 to 1974 when the shield cone developed (USGS, 1997).
