I Am A...Cryptozoologist (Coloring Page)

Detailed Description

SPOOKY SCIENCE (and having some fun with a playful, silly, not real science career)

Do you believe there is a moth-human hybrid hiding in every tree, a large-footed ape creature in every forest, a sea serpent in every lake? Do you want to keep the spooky going all year round? Consider becoming a Cryptozoologist!

In homage to our wonderful “I am a... Science Careers” activity book, featuring many of the great science careers you can follow with the USGS, we offer you an October treat: coloring pages about being a cryptozoologist (pronounced KRYPT-TOE-ZOO-AH-LOW-JIST), or “someone who studies mythical creatures in the real world.”

Like all great science (well, science adjacent) words, the term derives from:

kryptos- = hidden, secret
zoion = animal
-ology = study of
-ist = person

Altogether, “someone who studies hidden animals.”

As a cryptozoologist, you will learn things like: When were the first reports of Bigfoot popularized in modern times? What is the Latin name for the Loch Ness Monster?

You can also tell rad jokes at work, like “Bigfoot is sometimes confused for Sasquatch. Yeti never complains.”

Check out the full suite of USGS “Ologists” you can be in the full coloring book.

P.S. This post is a joke. In case anyone missed it: we are joking.
