Isotopic Water Analyzer
Detailed Description
This Picarro L2130-i Isotope and Gas Concentration Analyzer is housed at the USGS St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center. Climate scientists at the center studying Climate and Environmental Change in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean use this analyzer to measure the ratios of isotopes (such as δ18O, an isotope of oxygen; and δD, an isotope of hydrogen). The team analyzes various water samples to trace the source, flow path, or ages of each parcel of water. The high-quality stable isotope data produced by this instrument can be used for studies in paleoclimatology, hydrology, and oceanography.
