Location map of CA study area showing 2021 Caldor Fire burn zone

Detailed Description
Figure 1: (a) Location map of the study area, showing the 2021 Caldor Fire burn zone. Color scheme indicates soil burn severity. Box indicates area shown in (b). On the inset map of California, red star shows this study location; smaller yellow and blue stars show area of sediment-yield studies after the Carr Fire (East et al., 2021) and Soberanes Fire (East et al., 2024), respectively. Purple point shows gaging station 11439500 on the South Fork American River near Kyburz (north of the fire perimeter at that location; U.S. Geological Survey, 2024a). (b) The Sly Park Creek watershed (outlined with solid black line), the primary focus of the study, and Hazel Creek (outlined with dashed black line), drain to the upper part of Jenkinson Lake. Blue circle indicates location of photographs shown in Figure 2. White stars indicate locations of two rain gages: one at Sly Park Dam, and one on the ridge bounding the south side of the watershed.
