March 25, 2024 — Annual Kīlauea gravity survey
Detailed Description
A scientist takes gravity measurements on the sloping floor of Kaluapele. This part of the caldera floor, referred to as the "down-dropped block" moved downwards during the Kīlauea summit collapse of 2018. The scarp that formed as a result of the collapse is visible in the background of the photo, with the spatter cones that formed during the September 2023 eruption on the caldera floor visibly steaming.
