In the distance, approximately 0.8 miles away, are the snow fields of Byron Glacier. A visible snow cornice lines the mountaintop while the shadows of the rocky hillside on the left shield remnants of the winter's snow.

The hike will take you approximately 0.8 miles (one-way) to the snow fields of Byron Glacier. This is an easy hike with very little elevation gain and the trail is well-maintained. At the end of the established trail you will see a bench and a hazardous conditions sign. The trail is not maintained beyond the sign and hiking on the snow and rocks poses inherent dangers found throughout most of the Chugach National Forest. It is not advisable to try to hike or climb on the glacier without glacier travel skills and proper rescue equipment. Click here for the Byron Glacier Trail Map.
