Sand in the roads (which was present in the pre-storm photo, taken shortly after hurricane Irene in 2011), indicates overwash. In the foreground, a sand bar is exposed near the shoreline, indicating sand moving back onto the beach. The yellow arrow in each image points to the same feature.
