Planning for Surveying for Earthquake Damage
Detailed Description
Team discussion among CGS and USGS earthquake scientists at the location of the primary surface fault rupture where is has disrupted and offset an access road at the NAWS China Lake. The fault runs NW to SE across the road, which runs from west to east. The east side of the road is uplifted relative to the west side. The west side has shifted permanently towards the NW along the fault line. The team is documenting features like this that have been severely damaged by the M 7.1 earthquake. Although this road remains passable by 4WD vehicles crawling up and across it, it will clearly require repairs in order to be passable by 2WD vehicles.
