Detailed Description

After the mainshock, people in the region can expect aftershocks to continue for weeks, months, or even years. The USGS provides aftershock forecasts, offering probabilistic estimates of the number and magnitude of aftershocks that may occur. This information is vital for residents and responders to remain vigilant and prepared for subsequent tremors. Within the first week, there was a 40% chance of additional magnitude 6 and larger aftershocks, as well as 63% chance of more magnitude 5 and larger aftershocks. In the recent update, these have decreased to 10% and 61%, respectively.
