Strain signal associated with seiche on Yellowstone Lake in July 2010
Detailed Description
(A) Strain signal for a highly excited seiche, or surface wave, on Yellowstone Lake, which started on July 12, 2009. This phenomenon led scientists to the study ways to use strainmeters to better understand the underlying magma reservoir. (B) The coincident fluctuations at the Yellowstone River outlet discharge gauge. (C) Map showing the locations of strain instruments (yellow triangles) and pressure gauges (red circles).
