Triepeolus remigatus, m, right side, Centre Co., Pa
Detailed Description
Here is a bee, Triepeolus remigatus, that is native to North America, but in much of the continent occurs only because of the crops we plant. In this case that crop is squash and pumpkins. This bee is a nest inquiline of the squash bee, Peponapis pruinosa, which has moved from locations in Mexico and the south where squash are native into areas where they must be replanted each year. Collected by Laura Russo near State College, PA. Photography by Kelly Graninger.
