ShakeMovie of 2019 M7.1 Ridgecrest Sequence Earthquake, Near-Fault View
Detailed Description
This ShakeMovie depicts a computer-generated simulation of the July 5, 2019 M7.1 Ridgecrest, CA earthquake, and is based on a mathematical model of the earthquake faulting process and 3D wave propagation. To initiate the simulation, a detailed representation of the earthquake rupture is inserted into the mathematical model, and then as the fault ruptures, seismic waves are radiated into the surrounding geologic media. This earthquake ruptured bilaterally to both the northwest and southeast along the fault zone, and generated very strong shaking in nearby communities including the town of Ridgecrest.
