USGS HVO Press Release — Earthquake Felt Island-Wide
An earthquake shook the entire Island of Hawai‘i at about 3:54 p.m. this afternoon.
The earthquake had an preliminary estimated magnitude of 4.5–4.8 and took place within the south flank of Kīlauea, about 4 miles south-west of Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō, at a depth of about 3 miles. The earthquake was felt throughout the island, but there were no reports of damage. An earthquake from the general location occurred early in the morning on June 30 and had a magnitude of 5.3–5.5. Today's earthquake caused no observable change in the ongoing eruption at Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō.
