Relations of bauxite and Kaolin in the Arkansas bauxite deposits

Investigation of the Arkansas bauxite deposits by the U. S. Geological Survey during the years 1942 to 1945 has brought out the fact that secondary kaolinization or silication of the bauxite is much more common than has been generally recognized. On the other hand no direct evidence was found of the development of bauxite from kaolin. These facts have led us to reconsider the genetic relations of

Results and description of test drilling in Argenta Swamp near Battle Mountain, Nevada

In June 1949, the U. S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the State Engineer of Nevada, as part of the State-wide ground-water studies, drilled a test well on the flood plain of the Humboldt River about 4 miles northeast of Battle Mountain. This well was drilled for the purpose of obtaining information concerning the geologic and hydrologic character of the sediments underlying the flood plain

Rodent-repellent studies. I. Method for the evaluation of chemical repellents

A biological assay procedure and a method for the numerical expression of results have been devised for the determination of the repellency to rodents of different chemical compounds. The procedure is based upon the degree of acceptability of foods containing the candidate repellents,. and has been shown. to offer a rapid, reliable measure of repellent activIty.

Rodent-repellent studies. III. Advanced studies in the evaluation of chemical repellents

In order to bridge the gap between preliminary screening of chemicals for potential rodent repellency and the application ofthese compounds to paper cartons, more advanced studies in the evaluation ofpromising materials have been carried out. These studies have resulted in: (1) a modification of the food acceptance technique which eliminates doubtful compounds and also provides a closer analogy t
