2024 International Residential Code (IRC-2024)

Maps:  Available from IRC-2024 Section 301.2.2.1 or FEMA P-2192-4.

Web Interface:  None specifically for the IRC-2024 maps, but https://ascehazardtool.org/ can be used with the following steps:

  1. Enter the location (address, lat/long, or find on map).

  2. Select (i) ASCE/SEI 7-22 as the "Standard Version," (ii) any "Risk Category" (I-IV), (iii) Default as the "Site Soil Class" (for the mapped seismic design categories), and (iv) Seismic as the "Load Type."

  3. Click on "View Results" and then "Summary" or "Details."

  4. Find the SDS value, and use it to set the Seismic Design Category (SDC) in accordance with IRC-2024 Table R301.2.2.1.1. Note that this IRC SDC is defined differently than the SDC in ASCE/SEI 7 and the IBC.

2024 International Building Code (IBC-2024)

Web Interface:  None specifically for the IBC-2024 maps, but https://ascehazardtool.org/ can be used with the following steps:

  1. Enter the location (address, lat/long, or find on map).

  2. Select (i) ASCE/SEI 7-22 as the "Standard Version," (ii) the "Risk Category" of interest (I-IV), (iii) the "Site Soil Class" of interest (e.g., Default for the mapped seismic design categories), and (iv) Seismic as the "Load Type."

  3. Click on "View Results" and then "Summary" or "Details."

  4. Find the Seismic Design Category, which is defined in the same way in ASCE/SEI 7 and the IBC.
