Each year, the US Geological Survey National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, in partnership with the Association of American State Geologists (AASG), the American Institute of Professional Geologists, Geological Society of America (GSA), and American Geosciences Institute hosts the annual Best Student Geologic Map Competition (BSGMC) during the GSA Annual Meeting.

This competition highlights student research from around the world that incorporates field mapping and the creation of a geologic map as a major component.

The 2024 competition showcased 15 graduate and undergraduate student mappers who presented posters with an impressive array of geologic maps spanning from the Himalayas to Idaho.

AASG President Jessica Moore and Brunton CEO Lauren Heerschap present BSGMC winner Andrew Yokel-Deliduka with the 1st place prize
