Retrieving Band Values for a Single Pixel Through Time

August 20, 2024

In July 2017, a sinkhole collapse significantly impacted the Lake Padgett Estates community in Land O'Lakes, Florida. Two homes were destroyed, and seven others were condemned. Mitigation efforts involved partially filling the sinkhole and creating an open-water pond surrounded by shrubs. This tutorial explores how the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) can be used to analyze changes in vegetation cover at a specific location over time. We can track NDVI values before and after the sinkhole event by focusing on a single pixel within the affected area. Changes in the NDVI might indicate:
1. Increased NDVI due to the vegetation surrounding the sinkhole
2. Decreased NDVI due to the presence of the open-water pond
