After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Geological Sciences, Dan was selected for the 2019 National Association of Geoscience Teachers—USGS Cooperative Summer Fellowship Program. During his internship with USGS, he conducted geophysical investigations for lithium resources in the Great Basin, NV and geothermal resources in northern CA.

During his graduate studies at the University of Wyoming, Dan used electron microscopy and GIS tools to explore how complex fault systems drive deep hydrothermal circulation and high-temperature metamorphism at the Earth's slowest mid-ocean ridges. He also worked as a Contract Geologist for the Wyoming State Geological Survey, where he co-led digital field mapping and petrographic sample analysis to help create the Geologic Map of the Phantom Lake Quadrangle in the Medicine Bow Mountains of WY.

In 2024, Dan joined the USGS as a Physical Scientist, Pathways Recent Graduate in the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program supporting STATEMAP, FEDMAP, EDMAP, the National Geologic Map Database, and other USGS mapping initiatives.
