David Ketchum, PhD
David Ketchum is a remote sensing and geospatial information specialist at the Wyoming-Montana Water Science Center. He started working at the Center in 2024, after having received his PhD in Systems Ecology at the University of Montana. David is a research affiliate at the Montana Climate Office at University of Montana.
David is a hydrologist who integrates hydrological modeling, remote sensing, and geospatial data science to evaluate hydrological systems. His research uses a combination of hydrological modeling and quantitative analyses of big data (geospatial vector and raster, hydrographic, and remote sensing) to understand effects of human- and natural-caused changes in the hydrological cycle. He works on diverse systems, addressing problems spanning from subcontinental-scale empirical analysis of impacts of irrigated agriculture on large river systems, to modeling the physical mechanisms governing streamflow in small watersheds, to the water balance of individual soil columns.
