Contaminant transport and accumulation in Massachusetts Bay and Boston Harbor: A summary of U.S. Geological Survey studies
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting studies in Boston Harbor, Massachusetts Bay, and Cape Cod Bay designed to define the geologic framework of the region and to understand the transport and accumulation of contaminated sediments. The region is being studied because of environmental problems caused by the introduction of wastes for a long time, because a new ocean outfall (to begin oper

Public-domain-software solution to data-access problems for numerical modelers
Unidata's network Common Data Form, netCDF, provides users with an efficient set of software for scientific-data-storage, retrieval, and manipulation. The netCDF file format is machine-independent, direct-access, self-describing, and in the public domain, thereby alleviating many problems associated with accessing output from large hydrodynamic models. NetCDF has programming interfaces in both the

Tidal mass exchange between a submersed aquatic vegetation bed and the main channel of the Potomac River
Tidal mass exchange between a submersed aquatic vegetation (SAV) bed and the main channel of the Potomac River was investigated. Water levels were recorded at 5 minute intervals from August (when plants were present) through December (when plants were absent). Velocities were measured during individual tidal cycles both in the presence and absence of plants. Flow patterns were found to be altered
