Caroline Ann Havrilla

Caroline Havrilla, a Ph.D. candidate from the University of Colorado Boulder, spent two years working with USGS geographer Miguel Villareal. Her research focused on using remote sensing to understand relationships between soil microbial communities called biocrusts and plant communities in desert regions in Utah. Through her USGS internship, Caroline had access to expert knowledge, equipment, and computer tools not available to her in her home department at CU Boulder, which allowed her to forge meaningful relationships with USGS scientists and incorporate applied geospatial tools into her dissertation research program.
