College Partnerships in Neurodiversity

The USGS College Partnerships in Neurodiversity supports student internships at USGS centers that are close to partner colleges. Paid internships for students offer professional development in sciences and workplace experience to help neurodiverse students transition into the workforce.

The CPN program is piloting in 2022 with Colorado School of Mines (Golden CO) and George Mason University (Northern VA). The program targets students in the last two years of college or in graduate school. USGS partners with college disability services offices to identify qualified students and manage the program. Students and their USGS mentors are supported in the program through the partnership. Students who are eligible for Schedule A hiring can apply.

The program can expand to other colleges where there is a confluence of USGS science center, a university with support for neurodiverse students, and majors that match the nearby USGS office focus. Interested parties should contact the Youth and Education in Science office.
