Data

The Alaska Science Center Data Repository, a USGS Trusted Digital Repository, provides public access to the digital data from our research. See below for featured data sets and a list of all data releases from the USGS Alaska Science Center. All USGS released data sets are also listed in the USGS Science Data Catalog.

Aerial Images of Alaska's Arctic Coastal Plain; 1955

This dataset is comprised of a single aerial image of a single area on Alaska\'s Arctic Coastal Plain taken on 21 June 1955 by the U.S. Air Force and obtained from the USGS EROS data center via the EarthExplorer website in 2013. The image represents an historical snapshot of the landscape from that time. \r\n The image was scanned and geo-referenced to various contemporary (2002-2010) satellite im

Rocky Intertidal Data from Prince William Sound, Katmai National Park and Preserve, and Kenai Fjords National Park

These data are part of the Gulf Watch Alaska (GWA) long-term monitoring program, nearshore monitoring component. The dataset consists of 10 tables of data organized into four folders. The data are presented in Comma Separated Value (CSV) format exported from a Microsoft Access relational database. The tables are: 1) invertebrate taxonomy, 2) limpet size, 3) limpet counts, 4) Nucella, Katharina, an

Pacific Walrus Coastal Haulout Occurrences Interpreted from Satellite Imagery

This dataset is derived from images from a variety of Earth observing satellite imagery sources collected at known walrus coastal haulouts in Alaska and Chukotka, Russia. Earth observing imagery sources used in this data release include (but are not limited to) optical imagery collections by: (1) the European Space Agency's Sentinel-2 mission, (2) the Plant Labs Planet Scope constellation, and (3)

Observation Data of Migratory Birds during Spring and Fall Migration and their use of Habitats in the Yakutat Foreland of Alaska

This data package presents raw legacy data collected during 1980 on the Yakutat Forelands of southeast Alaska. The data were collected to identify and understand the occurrence and distribution of birds and mammals in the ocean and wetlands near Yakutat. Migration "sea watches", aerial surveys, and ground plot surveys were conducted in the foreland area of Yakutat in spring (April - May) and fall

Alaska Science Center Data Sheets from Intracoelomic Transmitter Implant and Liver Biopsy Surgeries in Birds, 1993-2012

These are surgery data sheets filled out during operations on many bird species by the USGS Alaska Science Center, 1993-2012. The majority of surgeries were to implant intracoelomic tracking transmitters, but a subset were to collect liver biopsy samples. The data sheets provide information about individual surgeries, including: data about each bird, the timing of steps during each operation, admi

Bivalve Shell Growth Indices, Chukchi Sea, Alaska, 1867-2015

This dataset contains the growth index from annual growth bands in the shells of two bivalve clam species (Astarte borealis and Liocyma fluctuosa) captured in the Chukchi Sea, Alaska. The growth index is based on a measurement of the annual growth increment width that has been detrended for age-related differences in growth.

Whole Rock Major and Trace Element Chemistry for Igneous and Metamorphic Rocks from the Yukon-Tanana Upland, Alaska

This data set consists of one table containing whole-rock geochemistry data for 753 igneous and metamorphic rocks from the Yukon-Tanana upland of eastern interior Alaska, collected between 2013 and 2019. All materials were analyzed by ALS Global, between 2014 and 2020, by a range of different techniques, so multiple unique entries for a given element relate to different analytical methods or prepa

Metabolic Rates Measured in Three Captive Adult Female Walruses (Odobenus rosmarus divergens) While Resting and Diving

This dataset contains measurements of oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production of 3 adult female walruses (Odobenus rosmarus divergens) while resting and diving at the Oceanografic Aquarium in Valencia, Spain. Oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production was measured for walruses via a respiratory dome while resting at the water surface and after swimming and diving.

USGS Benchmark Glacier Mass Balance and Project Data

Since the late 1950s, the USGS has maintained a long-term glacier mass-balance program at three North American glaciers. Measurements began on South Cascade Glacier, WA in 1958, expanding to Gulkana and Wolverine glaciers, AK in 1966, and later Sperry Glacier, MT in 2005. Additional measurements have been made on Lemon Creek Glacier, AK to compliment data collected by the Juneau Icefield Research

Intertidal Temperature Data from Kachemak Bay, Prince William Sound, Katmai National Park and Preserve, and Kenai Fjords National Park

These data are part of the Gulf Watch Alaska (GWA) long-term monitoring program. This dataset consists of date, time, and temperature measurements from intertidal rocky sampling sites, including predicted tide height at the time of the reading, which is used to distinguish air from water temperature readings. The data are provided as comma separated values (.csv) files derived from data downloaded

GIS and Hydraulic Model data in Support of a Geomorphic and Hydraulic Assessment of Glacial Outburst Floods on the Snow River near Seward, Alaska

Provided here are three data packages: (1) geospatial vector data showing mapped main channels and alluvial fan extents in the lower 10 kilometers of the Snow River flood plain near Seward, Alaska as part of an assessment of river channel stability under an outburst flood regime, (2) a height-above-river raster produced from 2008 lidar bare-earth elevations for the lower 10 kilometers of the Snow

Tracking Data for Long-tailed Ducks (Clangula hyemalis)

This metadata document describes the data contained in the "rawData" folder of this data package. This data package contains all data collected by the Argos System from 85 satellite transmitters attached to Long-tailed Ducks on their breeding range in arctic and western Alaska, 1998-2005. Five data files are included in the "rawData" folder of this data package. Two data files (with identical cont
