Data

Basic hydrologic data collection, processing, analysis, dissemination, and archiving are major parts of the California Water Science Center program. Streamflow data, for example, are used for flood and water-supply forecasts, planning and design, river regulation, streamflow statistics, and research investigations. Much of the data are available on a near-real-time basis by satellite telemetry.

Salinas Valley Integrated Hydrologic and Reservoir Operations Model, Monterey and San Luis Obispo Counties, California

The Salinas Valley Groundwater Basin in Monterey and San Luis Obispo Counties of California is a highly productive agricultural area, contributes significantly to the local economy, and provides a substantial portion of vegetables and other agricultural commodities to the Nation. Increases in agricultural development and population have put increasing demand on both surface water and...

Abundance and Distribution of Fishes in Lower Blue Lake, Lake County, California

Field data for fishes sampled using bottom and surface gill nets during daylight hours on October 22-24, 2024 in Lower Blue Lake, Lake county, California, USA. This data release includes the results of all measured environmental parameters and fish taxa included in the analysis.

Groundwater-quality data in the Western Central Valley Domestic-Supply Aquifer Study Unit, 2023: Results from the California GAMA Priority Basin Project

The U.S. Geological Survey collected groundwater samples from 44 wells used for domestic and small system drinking water supplies in the western Central Valley, California in 2023. The wells were sampled for the Western Central Valley domestic-supply aquifer study unit of the State Water Resources Control Board Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) Program Priority Basin...

Santa Ana River Native Fish Population and Habitat Data, Santa Ana River, California, 2024

This dataset includes fish population and habitat data collected in 2024 to support development of the upper Santa Ana River Habitat Conservation Plan for the Santa Ana Sucker (Catostomus santaanae) and the Arroyo Chub (Gila orcuttii) in the Santa Ana River, California.

Upper Feather River Watershed 30-meter Basin Characterization Model - Monthly Historical Climate and Hydrology

This data release includes downscaled climate inputs and hydrologic outputs from the Basin Characterization Model (BCM) version 8 (v8), described in Flint et al. (2021a), in a 30 by 30-meter spatial resolution at a monthly time step from water years 1896 to 2023 for the upper Feather River watershed. This data release includes five child items: 1. 30-year summaries, 2. Model Archive, 3...

Water Quality and Zooplankton Data from the Floating Wetland Experiment on Bouldin Island in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California

This data release includes water quality and zooplankton data collected concurrently with the Floating Wetland Experiment in the West Pond on Bouldin Island in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Data were collected to monitor water quality and zooplankton community composition before and after the installation of a floating tule wetland. The data were collected at a site near the floating...

Historical and future simulated streamflow and sediment loads from Clear Lake tributaries in California

This dataset includes simulated streamflow and sediment discharge for major tributaries contributing to Clear Lake, California. Historical hourly streamflow and sediment for each tributary location were outputs from an Hydrological Simulation Program - FORTRAN (HSPF) model. The historical data is available at an hourly time step from October 1980 to March 2024. The future time series...

Stable Isotopes of Fish, Invertebrates, and Vegetation in the Northern Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California, 2022-2024

This dataset includes lab data for stable isotopes of fish tissue, invertebrates, and vegetation collected during daylight hours in the Northern Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and drainage channels of the Yolo By-Pass, California, USA during summer 2022, 2023, and 2024. This data release includes all animal taxa and isotope values.

Geochemical data for groundwater and surface water from the Waste Rock Dam area, Sulphur Bank Mercury Mine, Lake County, California

The Sulphur Bank Mercury Mine in Lake County, California, was the site of historical mercury mining from 1880s through 1973.Since 1990, the mine area has been a Superfund site managed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). As part of a Remedial Investigation, the USEPA and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) are collaborating on a groundwater investigation in a part of the...

Geochemical and isotopic data for soils and sediments from the Clear Lake drainage basin, Lake County, California

This dataset includes geochemical, isotopic, and particle-size data for soil and sediment samples collected at approximately 500 sites in the Clear Lake drainage basin, Lake County, California, between November 2021 and December 2023. Data are also reported for ten soil samples collected during October 2018 soon after the Ranch Fire in the upper Scotts Creek watershed. Samples of lakebed...

Santa Rosa Plain integrated hydrological model: simulating the hydrological system of the Santa Rosa Plain, California with analysis of future climate scenarios

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) conducted a study in cooperation with the Sonoma County Water Agency to assess the water resources of the SRPW and develop tools to better understand the groundwater and surface-water systems in the watershed. The foundation of these tools is the development and application of the Santa Rosa Plain hydrologic model (SRPHM) using GSFLOW to simulate...

6PPD-quinone concentrations in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California, 2018-2024

The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta is a crucial river delta that supplies a significant portion of California's freshwater for agricultural and residential use and serves as critical habitat for numerous state and federally listed species of concern. In several areas, urban stormwater drains discharge directly into the Delta. 6PPD-quinone (6PPD-Q, 2-anilo-5-[(4-methylpentan-2- yl)amino...
