The 2025 CDI Workshop will be held from April 29-May 2nd, 2025 at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

CDI Workshop: Cultivating a Data-Centric Culture

The CDI holds in-person workshops every two years. These meetings are a crucial step for focusing people, resources, and Bureau-wide efforts across the USGS on data integration tools and services, data and information management, and computational methods. Participants join to grow their expertise in handling data, to propose collaborative paths to solve data challenges, and to share knowledge with their network of peers.

The 2025 CDI Workshop will be held from April 29-May 2nd, 2025 at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

CDI members on our contact list will be informed about workshop deadlines and milestones. If you would like to join the CDI, fill out this form.

How to Participate

There are many ways that you can share your work, contribute your expertise, and collaborate with colleagues at the CDI Workshop.

Propose a 90-minute Session

Do you want to showcase a series of perspectives, get feedback on a project, or deep dive into a longer working session? The 90-minute sessions at the CDI workshop may be in a variety of formats, including short presentations, audience feedback, breakout discussions, working sessions, and how-to clinics. We seek sessions addressing the theme “cultivating a data-centric culture,” as well as sessions on other CDI topics of interest.

Find more information and submit a session proposal here!

Submit a 10-minute Talk

If you would like to give a talk on your work, but don't know what session it belongs in, you can submit a 10-minute talk (new this year!). The Workshop Team will organize these short talks into themed sessions organized around the USGS Data Strategy Goals.

Find more information and submit a 10-minute talk here!

Help advise the workshop team

The workshop team wants to make sure the workshop meets the needs of the CDI members. Join us to advise on different aspects of the workshop, including the virtual experience, interactivity, and follow-up.

Volunteer to help here!

Sign up for a DataBlast Poster or Demo

The CDI Poster and Demo Sessions are known as the DataBlast, and this is great way to share your work or project in an interactive session. Posters and demos can be submitted by in-person participants.

You can sign up for a poster or demo during your registration (November 2024 - March 2025). The registration link will be posted here soon.

Sign up for a 90-second Lightning Talk

If you want to give a very short informational talk to the whole workshop, the CDI loves its Lightning Talk presentations. These are usually scheduled during a plenary session, and are a great way to spread the word in an efficient manner (just 90 seconds!).

You can sign up for a 90-second lightning talk during your registration (November 2024 - March 2025). The registration link will be posted here soon.
