Down-looking Images of Lake Trout (Salvelinus namaycush) and Round Goby (Neogobius melanostomus) to Support Automated Biomass Estimation

These data include in situ images of lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush) and round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) collected by an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) in Lakes Michigan and Superior in 2020 and 2021 and laboratory images of round goby collected by a GoPro in 2021. These images were collected and labeled to train and validate an algorithm for automated fish sizing and biomass estimation

Demographic, morphometric, and meristic data describing cisco (Coregonus artedi) captured in the Spanish River, Ontario, Canada, 15-16 November 2022

These data describe demographic (e.g, age), morphometric (body shape), and meristic (total number of gill rakers) measurements of a probable spawning run of cisco (Coregonus artedi) collected from the Spanish River (Ontario, Canada) immediately downstream of the Espanola Dam from 15-16 November 2022. These data were used to provide baseline biological, demographic, and morphological information on

Hydroacoustic data from uncrewed surface vehicle (USV) overtakes in Lake Superior, 2022

These data were derived from hydroacoustic data collected by uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs) and powered research vessels in Lake Superior in 2022. The powered vessels overtook the USVs to study fish avoidance of survey vessels during traditional acoustic surveys. The water column was divided into four depth groups for analysis. Each USV transect was binned into 30-sec intervals and measured hydr

Northern Lake Michigan lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush) and burbot (Lota lota) diet data, 2021-2023

These data consist of lake trout and burbot diet information collected from USGS spring and fall gillnet surveys in Northern Lake Michigan from 2021-2023. All prey were identified, enumerated and weighed. Only fish prey had lengths measured.

Great Lakes Restoration Initiative's Terrestrial Habitats & Connectivity Work Group's Pilot Area's Post-Fiscal Year 2023 Forest Habitat Connectivity

This dataset is the fourth installment of a yearly connectivity update for forested habitat within the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative's (GLRI) Terrestrial Habitats & Connectivity (TH&C) work group's Pilot Area. The Pilot Area is a region of the northern Great Lakes Basin between Ashland, WI and the Keweenaw Peninsula and is bounded by Lake Superior in the north and the basin boundary in the so

Great Lakes Restoration Initiative's Terrestrial Habitats & Connectivity Work Group's Pilot Area's Post-Fiscal Year 2023 Open Habitat Connectivity

This dataset is the fourth installment of a yearly connectivity update for open habitat within the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative's (GLRI) Terrestrial Habitats & Connectivity (TH&C) work group's Pilot Area. The Pilot Area is a region of the northern Great Lakes Basin between Ashland, WI and the Keweenaw Peninsula and is bounded by Lake Superior in the north and the basin boundary in the south,

Swim chamber respirometry, aerobic scope, and thermal tolerance experiments with two latitudinally-separated cisco (Coregonus artedi) populations 2022-2023

These data include aerobic scope and thermal tolerance measurements from two cisco (Coregonus artedi) populations to evaluate performance and potential adaptation to warming Great Lakes habitats. Cisco come from two stock sources: 1) a northern latitude Lake Huron stock collected as gametes from Les Cheneaux Islands, MI, USA in 2015 and raised in a USGS aquaculture lab in Ann Arbor, MI, and 2) a s

Lake Ontario April Prey Fish Bottom Trawl Survey, 1978-2023

This data release includes Lake Ontario prey fish data including species captured, relative abundance, spatial distribution, size structure, and age data from the April or spring prey fish bottom trawl survey, 1978 through 2023. Data from 1978 - 2015 are from U.S. waters of Lake Ontario while data from 2016 - 2023 include both U.S. and Canadian waters of Lake Ontario. Details about the vessel and

Down-looking camera images of round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) within constructed sand and cobble habitats in laboratory microcosms Nov. 2021 – Jan. 2022

These data include down-looking images of round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) in either cobble or sand substrates within clear acrylic enclosures (0.86-meters (m) long, by 0.56-m wide, by 1.07-m high). Ten individual round goby were added to enclosures for imaging to ensure known abundances in each tank. Images were collected to evaluate the efficiency of image-based methodologies for estimating r

Bottom dissolved oxygen measurements from Lake Erie's Central Basin, 2023

This data set, compiled by the USGS Lake Erie Biological Station, provides near-bottom measurements of temperature and dissolved oxygen for the Central Basin of Lake Erie. Data were recorded by self-contained environmental data loggers (PME, Inc., MiniDOT data loggers). The data loggers for 2023 were deployed to collect data during April 2023 through November 2023 to better understand how hypoxia

Telemetry detections of hatchery reared Cisco in Lake Erie with reference to temperature and predation, 2021-2022

Cisco (Coregonus artedi) have been extirpated from Lake Erie since the 1960s, but they once supported one of the largest Laurentian Great Lakes fisheries. Reintroduction may be beneficial to the Lake Erie fishery, but impediments for re-establishment are not fully understood. This data set aimed to use acoustic telemetry to investigate the thermal habitat use and survival of hatchery-reared adult

Western Lake Erie Restoration Assessment: Dikes

The US Geological Survey (USGS) created the Dikes dataset as ancillary layer in the Western Lake Erie Restoration Assessment (WLERA) which covers the southwestern shore of Lake Erie. WLERA is a part of the USGS's Great Lakes Coastal Wetland Restoration Assessment (GLCWRA) initiative where coastal areas around the Great Lakes are identified and ranked for potential wetland restoration. The dikes da
