Suspended-sediment, bed-sediment, and in-channel topographical data at the Green River at Mineral Bottom near Canyonlands National Park, and Colorado River at Potash, UT stream gages

November 3, 2020

Sediment Data: These data include (1) physical suspended-sediment sample data including suspended silt and clay concentration, suspended-sand concentration, and suspended-sand grain size distribution, (2) bed-sediment sample data with complete grain size analyses, and (3) 15-minute acoustical sediment data measured using a multifrequency array (1MHz and 2MHz) of sidelooking acoustic Doppler profilers which includes suspended silt-and-clay concentration, suspended-sand concentration, and the median grain size of suspended sand, instantaneous silt and clay, and sand loads, and cumulative silt and clay, and sand loads. The acoustic sediment data were calibrated with the physical suspended-sediment samples. These data were collected by the USGS Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center, and the USGS Utah Water Science Center and include samples collected between 3/26/2014 and 12/31/2018. Physical suspended-sediment samples and bed-sediment samples were collected using samplers lowered from a boat-mounted crane. Data were collected at Colorado River at Potash (CR_POT) and Green River at Mineral Bottom near Canyonlands National Park, UT (GR_MB). Bedform Surveys Data: These data include survey data of the channel bed collected using single- and multi-beam sonar collected from a boat, and stationary downward looking pole-mounted sonar transducers. These data were collected at both the Green River at Mineral Bottom near Canyonlands National Park, UT (GR-MB, station #09328920) and Colorado River at Potash (CR-POT, station #09185600) gaging stations. Channel-bed surveys were collected to calculate bedload transport rates using bedform tracking techniques. Single- and multi-beam sonar data consist of text files of survey coordinates projected using the NAD83 (2011) reference datum within UTM zone 12N. Elevations are orthometric heights (NAVD88) computed using geoid 12B. Stationary pole-mounted survey data include the range and amplitude of each transducer pulse.
