Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) for Students or Recent Graduates with Disabilities

The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) is a recruitment and referral program managed by the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) and the U.S. Department of Defense's Defense Support Services Center.

USGS Supports the Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP)

The USGS supports and utilizes the Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) to recruit and hire highly motivated college students and recent graduates with disabilities for summer, temporary, or permanent positions.

What is the WRP?

The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) is a recruitment and referral program managed by the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) and the U.S. Department of Defense's Defense Support Services Center. It connects federal and private sector employers nationwide with college students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to showcase their skills and abilities in the workplace.

Each fall, candidates apply to the WRP through participating campuses under the guidance of a designated School Coordinator. Candidate information is compiled into a searchable database, available annually through the WRP website. The database is refreshed every December with a new pool of candidates.

USGS hiring managers and HR professionals utilize the WRP database to find qualified candidates. All WRP candidates are eligible for the Federal Government's Schedule A Hiring Authority for Persons with Disabilities, which allows agencies to hire without posting a job announcement or going through the certification process.

What is Schedule A?

Under the Schedule A Hiring Authority for people with disabilities, qualified individuals can be appointed to federal positions non-competitively.

Schedule A (5 CFR 213.3102(u)) allows individuals with disabilities to apply for federal employment without the need for a competitive job announcement. This provides a direct pathway for applicants to showcase their skills and qualifications.

For additional details about Schedule A, visit the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) page on Schedule A Authority.
