Data

Basic hydrologic data collection, processing, analysis, dissemination, and archiving are major parts of the California Water Science Center program. Streamflow data, for example, are used for flood and water-supply forecasts, planning and design, river regulation, streamflow statistics, and research investigations. Much of the data are available on a near-real-time basis by satellite telemetry.

Phytoplankton Species Composition and Abundance in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta: Microscopic Enumeration of USGS Samples, beginning in 2016 (ver. 1.1, December 2023)

This dataset contains taxonomy, density (cells/mL), and biovolume (μm3/mL) data for phytoplankton sampled across the Sacramento San Joaquin River Delta and San Francisco Bay (Bay-Delta) beginning in 2016. Whole water phytoplankton samples were collected intermittently during special projects and during routine visits to service continuous monitoring stations. Samples were preserved with Lugol’s i

Basin Characterization Model (BCMv8) for California Coastal Basins - Monthly Historical (water years 1896-2019) and Future (water years 2006-2099) Climate and Hydrology

This data release contains monthly 270-meter gridded Basin Characterization Model (BCMv8) climate inputs and hydrologic outputs for 17 California Coastal Basins (Eel River, Fort Bragg, Fort Ross, Klamath, Los Angeles, Mad River, Mattole, Napa Sonoma, Russian River, Salinas, San Diego, San Francisco Coastal South, Santa Clara River Valley, Santa Clara River Valley South Bay, Smith, South Bay, and S

Russian River Integrated Hydrologic Model (RRIHM): Watershed Data

The Russian River Watershed (RRW) covers about 1,300 square miles (without Santa Rosa Plain) of urban, agricultural, and forested lands in northern Sonoma County and southern Mendocino County, California. Communities in the RRW depend on a combination of Russian River water and groundwater to meet their water-supply demands. Water is used primarily for agricultural irrigation, municipal and privat

Fish distribution and tidal currents in the Upper San Francisco Estuary, 2022-2023 (ver. 2.0, March 2024)

This data release includes field data for fishes sampled through mid-water trawls and otter trawl methods from Suisun Bay, California to the mouth of the Sacramento River. These data were collected from the months of September through October in 2022 and 2023 as a part of a multi-year study of Suisun Dredging and Fish Distribution (SDFD). This data release includes quantitative data on collected f

Electrical resistivity tomography in the Air Force Research Laboratory Northeast AFRL and Arroyos Groundwater Areas, Edwards Air Force Base, California 2022

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and Air Force Civil Engineering Center (AFCEC) have entered into a cooperative agreement to refine the hydrogeology in the Northeast AFRL and Arroyos groundwater areas of the Air Force Research Laboratory of Edwards Air Force Base. As part of these efforts, two electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) surveys- AFRL9 and AFRL10- were collected in the vicinity of the

Historical groundwater chemistry data compiled for the Poso Creek Oil Field and vicinity, Kern County, California

This digital dataset contains historical geochemical and other information for 100 samples of groundwater from 71 wells located within 3 miles of the Poso Creek Oil Field in Kern County, California. An additional 12 wells in the Poso Creek study area, but co-located within 3 miles of the adjacent Rosedale and Rosedale Ranch Oil Fields, were not included in this data release; these data are planned

Assessing spatial variability of nutrients, phytoplankton, and related water quality constituents in the California Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta related to the 2015 installation of the False River Emergency Drought Barrier: 2015 and 2016 high-resolution m

This data release documents the spatial and temporal variability of nutrients and related water quality parameters at high spatial resolution in the western and central portion of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta of California, USA. The data set includes water residence time, nitrate, ammonium, phosphate, dissolved organic carbon, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and c

Regional Water Table (2018) in the Mojave River and Morongo Areas, Southwestern Mojave Desert, California

Data for groundwater-levels measured in 707 wells during January-July 2018 by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the Mojave Water Agency (MWA), and other local water districts were compiled to construct a regional water-table shapefile for 2018. The regional water-table shapefile shows the elevation of the water table in and around the Mojave River and Morongo areas, in San Bernardino Cou

Regional Water Table (2020) in the Mojave River and Morongo Areas, Southwestern Mojave Desert, California

Data for groundwater-levels measured in 616 wells during water year 2020 (November 2019-June 2020) by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the Mojave Water Agency (MWA), and other local water districts were compiled to construct a regional water-table shapefile for 2020. The regional water-table shapefile shows the elevation of the water table in and around the Mojave River and Morongo area

Hydrogeologic Framework data and models for the Eel River groundwater basin, Humboldt County, California

This data release contains a geospatial database related to a digital 3D hydrogeologic framework model (3D HFM) of the Eel River Valley groundwater basin, California. The geospatial database contains two main data elements: (1) input data to the 3D HFM; (2) interpolated elevations and thicknesses of hydrogeologic units as a cellular array, which are a spatial representation of the 3D HFM results.

Produced water volatile organic compound and select organic and inorganic data collected from eight oil fields, 2016-2020, California

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the California State Water Resources Control Board collected produced water samples for analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the eight California oil fields of Fruitvale, Lost Hills, North Belridge, Orcutt, Placerita, South Belridge, Midway-Sunset, and Buena Vista from 2016 to 2020. Sampled sites included oil wells; injectate from t

Compilation of lithologic data from selected well completion reports submitted to the California Department of Water Resources (ver. 2.0, June 2024)

This data release was prepared as part of an agreement between the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) to support the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). Of the many components of that agreement there is a specific task requiring the Enhancement of Digital Well Completion Reports. Well-completion reports (WCRs) contain informatio
