Hepatic gene expression transcript counts in liver samples of American kestrels

A number of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) have been reported to interfere with the thyroid signaling pathway and cause oxidative stress in birds, yet the underlying shifts in gene expression associated with these effects remain poorly understood. In this study, we measured hepatic transcriptional responses of 31 genes in American kestrel hatchlings following in ovo exposure to one of three hi

Historical genetic resources for Northwestern Atlantic and Caribbean populations of Roseate Tern Sterna dougallii, 1879-1940

Here we provide public access to UCE DNA sequences for all genetic samples in Byerly et al. 2022.

Droplet digital PCR data for the detection of Smoky Mountain Madtoms in Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Environmental DNA water samples were collected at multiple sites in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 2016 and 2017 and analyzed with a droplet digital PCR assay to screen for the presence of smoky mountain madtoms. Smoky Mountain madtoms were detected within a section of Abrams Creek, known as the only stream in Great Smoky Mountains National Park that supports this species.

Native riverine fish occurrences downstream from two hydropower dams with contrasting operations, Georgia, USA

Data are fish species occurrences in surveys made by backpack electrofishing and seining in shoal habitats in the Etowah River downstream from Allatoona Dam (n=10 surveys in 2010 and n=5 surveys in 2016; 20 taxa total) and in the Coosawattee River downstream from Carters Dam and re-regulation dam (n=11 surveys in 2010; 32 taxa total), Georgia, USA. Data for the Etowah River include counts of indiv

2023 Release - North American Breeding Bird Survey Dataset (1966 - 2022)

The 1966-2022 North American Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) dataset contains avian point count data for more than 700 North American bird taxa (species, races, and unidentified species groupings). These data are collected annually during the breeding season, primarily in June, along thousands of randomly established roadside survey routes in the United States and Canada. Routes are roughly 24.5 miles

Data showing similar movement ecology between mallards infected and not infected with highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1

These data, which support a paired USGS publication, document the movement and infection status of mallards captured, marked, and tested at a wintering site in Tennessee. Data document differences in movement ecology between mallards infected and not infected with HPAI H5N1.

Brook trout abundance within pools of Staunton River and Paine Run in Shenandoah National Park from 2012-2021

This Data Release provides brook trout abundance records for pool habitats within 2 streams in Shenandoah National Park (Staunton River and Paine Run). The data were collected with 3-pass backpack electrofishing conducted during baseflow conditions between 2012-2021. This dataset enables spatial analysis of brook trout population responses to drought conditions.

The Contaminant Exposure and Effects-Terrestrial Vertebrates database (CEE-TV)

The information provided in the Contaminant Exposure and Effects-Terrestrial Vertebrates (CEE-TV) Database profiles available geo-referenced information on contaminant exposure and effects in terrestrial vertebrates along the U. S. Atlantic, Gulf, and Pacific coasts (including Hawaii and Alaska) and the Great Lakes.

PFAS Reconnaissance Landscape Data

This dataset consists of summary data for potential landscape sources of per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These summary items include facilities from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) PFAS Analytics Tools, which were pulled from its Enforcement and Compliance History Online (ECHO), areas affected by fires (burned and urban burned areas) from Monitoring Trends in Burn Severity (

Long-term effects of timber harvest on vernal pool availability and occupancy of two obligate amphibians

This data set is comprised of 3 files of information collected on amphibians and vernal pool habitats at Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge from 2004 - 2016.

Abiotic and biotic factors reduce viability of a high-elevation salamander in its native range

Includes data used to estimate population demographic parameters for an exemplary high-elevation amphibian species, the federally endangered Shenandoah salamander (Plethodon shenandoah). These parameters were entered into a Markov projection model which we used to forecast the future population status of the Shenandoah salamander.

Brook trout abundance in streams across southern Appalachia from 1958-2021

This Data Release compiles records of brook trout abundance from 745 unique sites across the southern Appalachian mountains from 1958-2021. Records were compiled from 10 institutions, primarily state natural resource agencies. Data were collected from wadeable stream environments with standard backpack electrofishing methods, and observed abundances of adult and juvenile brook trout are reported f
